Various traditions mention the trial of Prophet Ayub (peace
be upon him) in details, but I would not refer to them as I am not sure how many
of these narrations are from the sahih hadith. However, it is sufficient to
understand that Prophet Ayub (peace be upon him) faced a trial and was in great
distress which related to a diseases and loss of wealth, so he made the
following invocation:
Anni, massaneeyal durru, wa anta arhamarraahimeen
Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most
Merciful of all those who show mercy."
This invocation is mentioned in the following verses.
[021:083] And (remember) Ayyûb
(Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You
are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy."
[021:084] So We answered his call,
and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him
(that he had lost) and the like thereof along with them as a mercy from
Ourselves and a Reminder for all those who worship Us.
Many people believe that an invocation in Quran has to begin
with rabbana or rabbi (Our Lord or My Lord) thus are likely to ignore this
invocation, in which Prophet Ayub doesn’t not even beseech removal of the
distress but mentions the distress and reminds Allah of His mercy.
